History of JL Freed Honda
The history of JL Freed Honda can be traced all the way back to 1883. George Gerhard and Joseph Oberholtzer formed a partnership that specialized in the trading of agricultural implements. In 1887 at the age of 28, Jacob L. Freed purchased the Gerhart interest in the business. The new company operated as “Oberholtzer & Freed” in Lansdale until 1902 when Jacob Freed bought the entire stake in the company. In 1918, Lester and Warren Freed joined the business with their father and they began to add automobiles to their existing line of agricultural machinery. Cadillac automobiles became part of JL Freed in 1926, with Pontiac joining the division in 1931. In 1969, the company was sold to Lester’s sons-in-law, Raymond and Willington. Then, in 1971, JL Freed became one of the first Honda dealers in the area. Wellington’s son-in-law Donald Franks joined the company in 1985 and eventually assumed his current position of Owner and President in 2001. The company you see today really took form in 2009 when JL Freed divested itself of Cadillacs and Pontiacs and moved the Honda franchise to its current location. The current home features a state-of-the-art, two-story new car showroom, and a dedicated certified showroom. Throughout history, the company has built its reputation on outstanding customer service since 1883.
